Driving conditions around the Hudson Valley have improved dramatically since this morning's commute which saw numerous roads and parkways closed because of flooding.
The Saw Mill River Parkway was closed in both directions between Route 119 in Elmsford and at the Thruway's northbound entrance ramp at Exit 7A in Greenburgh. Crews worked around the clock to deal with more than six inches of rain that got dumped on the region over the weekend.
The Bronx River Parkway in White Plains was temporarily shut down all the way to the Bronx. Hutchinson River Parkway was also shut down in both directions by the Cross County Parkway. Once the water started to recede on the parkways, crews had to clean up the mud and muck that was left behind before they could reopen.
In Rockland County, the Town of Ramapo had its share of problems on Cherry Lane. The road had to be closed due to downed wires and trees brought down by the harsh weather.
The problems continued even after roads began to improve. Traffic was backed up on the Saw Mill Parkway in areas where drivers needed to be diverted to just one lane because deep ponding remained in spots. Authorities warn that while roads may be open, there is ponding that can cause dangerous conditions for cars moving at a fast speed.
