A state Supreme Court jury in White Plains has awarded over $23 million to an Ossining family who filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Westchester Medical Center.
Jesus Eduardo Espitia was hospitalized for treatment after a serious hit-and-run accident occurred while he was cycling in October 2018. He died of a blood clot two months later.
The lawsuit claimed that medical staff failed to diagnose or treat him for signs of deep vein thrombosis.
The family’s attorney said they hope the medical center will implement changes so similar incidents do not happen to others in the future.
The medical center has not commented on the subject.
