An annual event that celebrates high school students who will become future educators was held in White Plains Friday.

The 29th annual Today's Students Tomorrow's Teachers brunch took over the Sonesta Hotel.

The organization has helped high school students move toward their ultimate goal of becoming teachers for almost 30 years.

Dr. Bettye Perkins, the founder and CEO Today's Students Tomorrow's Teachers, spoke with News 12 about the importance of their work.

"We are so passionate about this work because teaching is the one profession that makes all other professions possible, and if we don't tackle the critical issues that are facing education today, then we will lose the economic prosperity of this country," Perkins said.

The event celebrated over 150 high school students.
