The NYPD is cracking down on underground performers who flip, swing and pole dance on city subway cars.
More than 240 people have been arrested on misdemeanors for the acts so far this year. At this time last year, only 40 people were charged with the same crime.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says he knows the crime is not serious, but low-grade lawlessness can cultivate a greater sense of disorder and encourage more dangerous offenders.
After the announcement, News 12 The Bronx hit the streets to find out what viewers think of the crackdown.
Some residents say the performers give the city some of its character and don't see anything wrong with them. Others say they can pose an issue, especially if they happen to injure someone or themselves while performing a stunt.
