State police are asking the public to help solve a nearly 20-year-old mystery involving the apparent suicide of an unidentified man in Putnam County.
Officials released a digitally enhanced photo of the man who was found back in October 1995 in a wooded area near the Garden Street School in the village of Brewster.
The man is described as African-American or Hispanic and in his 40s or 50s. He was about 5 feet 9 inches, weighed 165 pounds, and had a mole on the right side of his face near his nose.
The victim was wearing a gold crucifix, a plaid shirt, khaki Hagger pants and Dockers penny loafer shoes.
Police say he killed himself by cutting his wrists.
Investigators say he bought two expensive blankets two days before his death at a curtain shop in New Rochelle. They think he got to Brewster from Westchester via Metro-North.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 845-677-7300.
