A New Rochelle pastor has formed a coalition to help address the city's homeless population.
Pastor Reford Mott, of the Family Christian Center Church, runs a homeless outreach program called Project Destiny. He says he has noticed a rise in the city's homeless population and decided to form a coalition to help those in need.
The coalition brings together pastors, caregivers, political leaders and volunteers to work with the homeless in New Rochelle.
"It's addressing the problems that the homeless have," says Deputy Westchester County Executive Kevin Plunkett. "How do we help them, how do we help them during the day, not just at night."
Joining the coalition is Nick Arnell, a former homeless drug addict who says his life was saved by outreach programs like Project Destiny. Arnell and other members of the coalition say giving the homeless faith-based communities will help them have a new outlook on life.
