The American Hockey League announced Tuesday that its Board of Governors unanimously approved the relocation of the Bridgeport Islanders to Hamilton, Ontario.
Officials say the team will play at the TD Coliseum in Hamilton and be a member of the AHL's North Division. It's not known what the new team will be called.
Earlier this month, The New York Islanders said the affiliate team would move to Canada for the start of the 2026-2027 season, pending approval.
The team had been in Bridgeport since 2001, first as the Sound Tigers before becoming the Islanders in 2021.
Only four regular season home games remain on the schedule, the last being April 12 plus any playoff games.
News 12 reached out to Mayor Joe Ganim for a comment but has not heard back.
