An infidelity website that is making headlines because of its leaked subscriber information is apparently popular among cheaters in New City.
According to AshleyMadison.com, the quiet, suburban hamlet of New City ranks sixth. The hookup site used its 2012 membership data to compile the ranking.
Some locals shrugged off the dirty distinction, saying that many people cheat everywhere. Others said they were surprised that the demand for discreet affairs is so high.
The website claims to be the "world's leading married dating service for discreet encounters." But data dumped this week on the dark web, which isn't accessible to most people, revealed millions of users' names.
And everyday Americans aren't the only people using the service. An Associated Press analysis of hacked data from the cheating website shows that subscribers of the online service include hundreds of U.S. government civilian and military employees. Some had sensitive jobs in the White House, Congress and law enforcement agencies.
Whoever the cheaters are, Tom Sasson, who works in New City, believes they deserve a second chance. "There's always forgiveness," he said. "Reconciliation is the key."
His wife, who was sitting next to him, disagreed.
