The Yonkers City Council budget meetings are in recess once again in a decision that could cut hundreds of jobs.

The City of Yonkers is less than a month away from a new budget taking effect.

Officials are working on a 2018-2019 budget that may include layoffs to fill a $45 million budget gap.

Mayor Mike Spano has already proposed cutting 182 city positions and raising the annual property taxes by about $100 for the average homeowner.

This is on top of 251 proposed staff cuts from Yonkers Public Schools.

The school district is also set to tap into a $24 million “rainy day fund” to help fill the gap.

Mayor Spano says he's hoping for good news from Albany, meaning some relief in the form of funding, which could mean less cuts all around.

City Council President Mike Khader tells News 12 he's expecting to hear more about the amended budget within the next few days, and then the council would go ahead and vote on it.
