Norwalk Animal Control is asking the public's help in identifying the operator of an SUV who was recorded abandoning a pit bull.

They say the operator of the vehicle dumped a tan pit bull in a cage that was shut with a padlock.

The dog, however, was able to open the cage and escaped.

The pit bull was last seen Thursday afternoon around Van Zant Street in East Norwalk.

Anyone with information on the people who left the dog or know anything about the pit bull is asked to call Norwalk Animal Control.
