New data from around Westchester shows porch pirate reports are actually going down. However, it's still happening.

One resident in Yonkers says they caught someone on a Ring camera taking a package from their porch last week on Yonkers Avenue.

"I'll be watching my phone sometimes and I see people stealing packages. I find it very inappropriate because what if it's things for your kids for school or anything," said Ana, who lives in Westchester County.

Neighbors around Westchester tell News 12 they still hear about these kinds of thefts too often.

"My wife has had her packages stolen. It says it's been delivered, but go and look for it, you can't find it," said Westchester County resident Benjamin Berkoh.

Data from police across the county show reported package thefts are going down.

In Yonkers, they're seeing a 50% decrease in the department's first precinct. Over in White Plains, they've had about 13 reports so far this year. That's down from 18 during the same time frame in 2025. Other departments around Westchester told News 12 that their numbers have also gone down.

Regardless, police want you to be alert.

"Cameras are still good. I think that in general, schedule your deliveries so you're home. If not, schedule it with a neighbor," said Deputy Commissioner Joseph Castelli, who is with the White Plains Public Safety Department.

Officers in other areas tell News 12 that people who get these packages stolen don't always report it. Police urge victims to always contact them and report these thefts.
