Opening statements have begun in the trial of a Valhalla man accused of killing a dog in Greenburgh in 2024.

Assistant District Attorney Alex Shapiro described Sisi the dog's final moments.

"This defendant, Cory Eulin, walked up to Sisi, grabbed her by the back of the neck, and threw her into Manhattan Avenue, killing her," said Shapiro.

Eulin, 41, was indicted on several charges, including aggravated cruelty to animals.

Officials say that Eulin threw the 10-12-pound dog into the street at Manhattan Avenue and Beech Street in Greenburgh, causing its head to slam into the cement. Sisi suffered a fatal injury.

According to Sisi's owner, Edison Prieto, who was with the dog at the time, he ran to grab Sisi out of the road, but says the dog was bleeding and not breathing.

"So, Edison, holding Sisi, went back up to Cory and said, 'Why would you do that? What's wrong with you?' And the evidence will show Cory answered by raising his fist, cocking back and swinging at Edison," said Shapiro.

Defense Attorney Angelo MacDonald urged the jury to have an open mind.

"Have the fortitude and the courage and the strength to issue a verdict of not guilty, if the government has not proven the identity beyond a reasonable doubt," said MacDonald.

In his testimony, Prieto described what happened that day. He later identified Eulin as the man who threw his dog into the street.
