A Yonkers woman says her car was totaled by a Yonkers fire truck during a snowstorm in January.

Video, captured by Yonkers resident Leython Vazquez, shows the moment a Yonkers fire truck struggled to come to a stop in the area of Park Avenue.

A Yonkers city police spokesperson told News 12 that the ladder truck hit five parked vehicles.

One car owner says the fire truck ended up hitting her Honda. She says she was legally parked on the side of the road. Now she says her car is totaled.

"Commuting to work is horrible. I have to rely on Uber services. It's like I'm spending money every single day," said Amairenis Merced.

Merced tells News 12 that she reached out to the city about the damage.

Merced sent News 12 an email saying that the city's attorney told her the city would claim immunity due to the weather conditions.

"Somebody should become responsible for this. It shouldn't be me that has to come out of pocket for something that I had nothing to do with," she said.

News 12 asked the city about Merced's comments.

The city says it "cannot comment due to the filing of a notice of claim and potential ongoing litigation."

News 12 then asked a New York-based insurance broker about crashes involving emergency vehicles.

"Municipalities do get away with not picking up liability for you," said licensed insurance broker Garrett Guttenberg. "There are accidents and the laws are designed to sort of protect that in that regard."

Merced says she didn't have full coverage insurance and still owes approximately $7,000 on the vehicle.
