The Westchester correction commissioner was under fire Monday night as the correction officers union rallied for his removal.
More than 150 members of the Westchester County Correction Officers Benevolent Association (COBA) came out to voice their demands that Commissioner of Corrections Rocco Pozzi be fired. Many members are outraged Pozzi chose to suspend three officers without pay for an incident on October 1. According to the COBA members, the three suspended officers were on duty the night a County Jail visitor allegedly tried to pass marijuana to an inmate. The COBA members feel Pozzi is retaliating against them for bringing issues of safety to the surface.
Susan Tolchin, a spokesperson for County Executive Andy Spano, fired back at the union. According to Tolchin, the three officers were suspended because they failed to follow their duties and compromised public safety. Tolchin adds that there are no plans to fire Pozzi.
