The NY Court of Appeals ruled that Mamaroneck High School can go ahead with proposed plans to move a WWII memorial on its grounds.
The Kemper Memorial Park, which sits in front of the high school, was built and donated to the school 60 years ago. The memorial includes the names of 98 men and a woman who died while serving their country in WWII. The school board wants to move the memorial 40 yards south so it can expand and allow for an athletic field. School Board President Cecilia Absher says the proposal to move the monument would still keep it on the donated property.
However, members of the Kemper Park Memorial Preservation say the issue should be left up to the community. They fear the move could set a bad precedent and the monument could get smaller and smaller over time.
