Southampton Town police arrested a Shirley woman accused of running over a man with her car, killing him and leaving the scene Sunday night.

Investigators charged Silvia Alvarez De Reyes, 46, with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality.

Police said an officer was on patrol just before 7:30 p.m. when they discovered the unconscious man near the intersection of Flanders Road and Vail Avenue in Riverhead near the Flanders border.

Flanders Northampton Ambulance responded to the scene to try and save the man's life but police said he died.

Officials identified the victim as Ever Eli Damian Mazat, 46, a Flanders resident.

Flanders Road was shut down from the Riverside traffic circle to Vail Avenue overnight but has since reopened following the investigation.

Southampton police are holding Reyes overnight and she is scheduled to go before a judge at the Southampton Town Justice Court for her arraignment later today.
