Gas prices are still rising in the Hudson Valley as conflict in the Middle East continues to affect the oil market.

AAA reports the average price in Westchester County at $3.66 and $3.62 in Rockland County, both higher than the New York state average of about $3.52.

Gas is about ten cents cheaper in Dutchess and Putnam counties.

Prices continue to rise despite an agreement by 32 countries for a historic release of 400 million barrels of global oil reserves.

Officials said the increase is tied to attacks on oil ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route that traditionally carries a large share of the world’s oil shipments.

White House officials said U.S. military escorts of ships through the passage will begin.

This week, President Trump ordered the release of 172 million barrels from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, though gas prices typically lag behind shifts in oil supply.
