Police say they have arrested a man in a double murder in Eastchester.
It happened just before 5 a.m. Friday on Rombouts Avenue near Light Street. Police say the two victims were found with gunshot wounds inside an Acura.
Authorities say they have taken surveillance footage from a nearby gas station to aid in their investigation.
Jeffrey Pierre was arrested Saturday on two counts of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Authorities say one of the victims has been identified as 28-year-old Jermaine Johnson, of Westchester. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the torso, where he was pronounced dead at around 5:30 a.m.
Police say the second victim, 23-year-old Kaiison Lewis, also of Westchester, was shot in the head and torso.
Published reports indicate that the incident may have began as a carjacking, but police have not confirmed that information.
Police blocked off part of the road as they searched for evidence. Several bullet casings could be seen on the ground, and police say they recovered .40 caliber and 9mm firearms used in the shooting.
