Mount Pleasant voters have decided not to pass a $55 million school bond.
Residents say the proposal to upgrade Westlake High School was too expensive and too extravagant for taxpayers to shoulder.
Officials say the bond not only included work necessary to bring the facilities up to mandated code, but it also could have helped modernize the Westlake campus.
The school district must now decide if it wants to scrap the bond, or modify it and put it back up for a vote within 90 days.
