A student at Mount Saint Mary
College in Newburgh who was charged with rape has pleaded guilty to lesser
charges
The Orange County District
Attorney's office says Anthony Pennachio, 19, of Brooklyn pleaded guilty to third degree sexual abuse in connection with an
incident that happened during a party at the college last February.
He was sentenced to 80 hours
of community service.
According to published
reports, the rape charge was dismissed after Pennachio's lawyer produced a
recorded conversation between his client and the victim in which they argued
over whether she gave him consent.
The judge continued an order
of protection against the victim.
