Police officers in Mount Vernon are searching for a suspect who took off running after his car was pulled over during a traffic stop Tuesday.
Investigators say officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle, prompting its two occupants to run away. Two county police officers gave chase. One of the officers was hurt, possibly suffering from a shoulder injury.
Police say they recovered two guns from the suspects' vehicle.
One of the suspects was caught minutes later. The other was believed to be inside a house on the block of Hillside Avenue. Police cordoned off the block in anticipation of a raid, leaving neighbors terrified.
"Whenever you see your street blocked, you think the worst," says Renee Anderson. "I just hope it can be resolved soon."
Police say they know the suspect's identity, but they have yet to release his name.
