A girl who was seriously injured in last week's school bus crash in Orange County is now home from the hospital – while her driver remains hospitalized in the ICU.

New Windsor rescuers welcomed home the girl they helped save - 6-year-old Meaghan Campbell.

"When she was on the bus, she gave one of the EMTs a bracelet and told him to hold it for her. He was there Friday, and he gave it back to her," says her mother, Dina Campbell.

Meaghan and her mom sat down with News 12 Monday on Zoom to thank first responders now that the Campbell Hall girl is home safe after sustaining multiple broken bones and a deep laceration in her leg.

The first grader at Little Britain Elementary was sitting behind her beloved bus driver – 74-year-old Andrew Sanchez – Wednesday, when their bus was hit by a truck on their way to school.

Sanchez's co-workers say despite being seriously injured himself and pinned in his seat, he was more worried about the eight students he had on board and sang to them while a good Samaritan got them off the bus.

Sanchez – who the kids lovingly call "Mr. Andy" – remains in an induced coma with broken ribs and deep lacerations in his stomach and legs.

His co-workers have started a GoFundMe page to help Sanchez, a person they say is always there for everyone else. So far, it has raised nearly $20,000 in four days.

Sanchez is listed in serious but stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital.
