Police, firefighters and other first responders are getting enhanced training to deal with people who are emotionally distressed.
The "Safer Communities" initiative program was started by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. Experts are offering information about crisis intervention training as well as a special five-day program to local municipalities.
Officers do receive similar training in the police academy, but this enhanced training will provide more information to defuse volatile situations.
