The first Sunday services in more than a year took place today at a Rockland County church damaged by two hurricanes.
The Calvary Baptist Church has served its congregation for almost two centuries. It was close to collapsing after being hit by Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Irene.
The church had to move its services to Haverstraw Town Hall while they tried to get enough donations to rebuild.
The $500,000 restoration project was primarily funded through donations.
"It's been a brutal time for them. Trying to come up with the money, trying to come up with the time frame," says Virginia Norfleet, former Calvary Baptist Church member. "The whole adjustment of being up in Town Hall, but they kept their spirits high. They trusted God and they are back in."
