Pope Francis, the first pope from the Americas, died Monday at the age of 88.
Sister Rosalie Carven, with the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Brentwood, described the pontiff as “a person who embraces everyone.”
“He never seemed to think that there was an end to the goodness that could be done," she says.

Sister Rosalie noted that the pontiff “welcomed people who are generally outside the mainstream of welcome.”
She said she thinks of him “as someone who has his arms wide open for humanity.”
Long Islanders Gary Krupp and Meredith Krupp are the founders of “Pave the Way Foundation,” which works with the heads of major religions to identify and solve problems.
They met Pope Francis several times. Gary Krupp described him as “very gentle and kind.” Meredith Krupp said he “exuded love.”
