More than 22,000 traffic tickets were issued statewide during the two-week Operation Hang Up initiative targeting drivers using electronic devices, according to state police.
In Sullivan, Ulster, Orange, and Rockland counties, Troop F issued nearly 2,500 tickets.
Over 2,000 drivers in Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties were also ticketed.
Penalties for violations range from a $50 fine to license suspension, depending on the number of offenses.
