An asylum appeal for a Mount Kisco custodian was denied on Thursday.
Armando Rojas, a husband and father of two, is the longtime custodian at the Bet Torah synagogue. The Mexico native has been denied asylum twice as he tries to stay in the U.S.
According to ICE, Rojas was asked to leave the country in 1993.  When he didn’t, they say he became a fugitive.
Rojas was deported back to Mexico in February and tried to seek asylum on the grounds of credible fear.
His asylum case was denied in June. He was  told Friday he would be deported after his hearing on Thursday.
Members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators sent a letter to the court to ask for Rojas' asylum to be granted.
Rabbi Aaron Brusso, of Bet Torah synagogue, tells News 12 Westchester the immigration court system lacks transparency and that on Thursday, they were told they couldn't enter the courtroom.
The proceedings, Brusso says, were over in 15 minutes.
Rojas is now being held at Albany County Prison until he is deported. His family says they don't even know when that day will come.
Members of the community drove Rojas' wife and children to his court hearing and to Albany to visit him.
Rabbi Brusso says the community will always be there for him no matter what happens next.
