The asbestos removal process began at a Mount Vernon school after the cancer-causing agent was found in several areas of the building.
School Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Hamilton confirmed that asbestos was found in a second-floor library at Mount Vernon High School, as well as in three classrooms on the first floor.
He says the affected areas have already been sealed off, and that no students will be in the building during the removal.
The school district says all the asbestos removal is being done according to New York state laws and regulations, and with the safety of the students in mind.
