Stamford police say a bicyclist hit by a car is fighting for their life Thursday morning.

Police say it happened in the 900 block of Washington Boulevard around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. A 2010 Toyota RAV4 traveling northbound on Washington Boulevard struck the operator of an electric bicycle that was crossing eastbound.

Washington Boulevard has been a dangerous stretch of road for many cyclists and pedestrians, most notably in December 2022 when two 25-year-olds were hit and killed while crossing at Main Street.

Police say in Wednesday night’s incident, the driver of the Toyota, a 46-year-old Stamford resident, was not injured, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The cyclist, a 49-year-old Stamford resident, suffered life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition at Stamford Hospital.

No charges have been filed.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at (203) 977-4712.
