March to go out like a lamb for Long Island this afternoon

March began with 9 inches of snow on the ground and below normal temperatures. As March ends today look for a very spring-like afternoon with temperatures 10+ above normal and just the slight threat of a shower or thunderstorm.

March, in like a LION and out like a LAMB really holds true...at least in 2026!

What a difference a month makes. March certainly came in like a lion. We had 0.1" of new snow on March 1st which fell on top of the 9 inches we already had on the ground. The day featured temperatures running 3 degrees below average with a high of only 39 degrees.

March will end like a lamb. We are looking at temperatures running about 10 degrees above average this afternoon and just the slight chance of a shower this afternoon. Most places will stay dry, and any storms that do develop should be brief. If a thunderstorm passes through, it could bring some gusty winds, but nothing too serious is expected. Overall, impacts today look minimal.

Wednesday:
A cold front will move through Long Island during the day. This could bring another round of spotty showers and possibly a quick thunderstorm. However, the atmosphere won’t have much energy, so storms should stay weak. Rainfall amounts will be light, and there’s no concern for flooding. Temperatures will still be warm, though not record-breaking during the day.

Thursday through Saturday:
The weather turns a bit unsettled, meaning there could be occasional chances for a passing shower, but much of the time will be dry. Friday and Saturday look like the better days overall, with more dry hours than wet ones. There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm on Friday, and if one forms, it could bring brief gusty winds—but again, nothing widespread or severe is expected.

Sunday into early next week:
Another front is expected to move through on Sunday, bringing the best chance for rain during this stretch, possibly lasting into Sunday night. Even so, it won’t be a washout, and there should still be dry periods. A thunderstorm could develop if conditions come together, but it’s too early to say for sure. After that, early next week continues with a mix of clouds and sunshine, plus occasional chances for showers, but no major weather impacts are expected.
