Measured in transfers: One NJ man’s daily commute to NYC

For many New Jersey commuters, getting to work means more than one train.

Matt Kulper, of Scotch Plains, has to take three.

Four days a week, he catches an early New Jersey Transit train in Westfield, transfers to PATH in Newark, and switches again before finally reaching Manhattan.

On a good day, he says the trip takes about an hour and 20 minutes — and saves him money by skipping the subway.
