The driver who police say led them on a high-speed chase from the Bronx to Mount Vernon is facing a number of charges Wednesday.
NYPD officials say the high-speed chase began Tuesday when officers in the Bronx tried to pull over a silver Nissan for speeding. The driver, Xavier Wilson, 18, of Yonkers, allegedly tried to flee, hitting speeds of over 80 mph. The chase went into Mount Vernon, and ended with Wilson crashing into several parked cars in front of the Centennial A M E Zion Church.
Three other people were inside the car that was being chased. A woman holding a 2-year-old girl was in the back seat. Investigators say both the woman and child are in stable condition.
Wilson is facing charges, including reckless endangerment, driving while impaired by drugs, and endangering a child.
Officials have not said what the relationship is between Wilson and his passengers.
