Car that crashed into utility pole causes road closure in Yonkers
Roberts Avenue in Yonkers will be closed for the remainder of the day between Nepperhan and Valley avenues after a car struck a utility pole Monday afternoon.
Officials tell News 12 that the hope is that the roadway will be open again by Tuesday morning rush.
Yonkers police tell News 12 that a driver had a medical emergency that caused him to lose control, striking the utility pole. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Police say he is in stable condition.
Yonkers police and Con Edison are on scene. Crews are working to secure the pole.
Con Edison originally told News 12 that there are no outages to any of their customers in the nearby area.
But News 12 is now learning from a Con Edison spokesperson that roughly 400 customers are without power. They were taken out of service for safety reasons. Customers should have power back later this afternoon.
A tow truck removed the vehicle shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.
According to police, those looking to get to Cross Hill Academy and other nearby locations should enter Roberts Avenue from North Broadway.
