New police reform is now underway in the city of
Yonkers.
Law enforcement held an open dialogue with the community on Wednesday
about public safety needs in that city.
Many took the podium to
voice concerns within the community. "The most we can do is ask, make suggestions, pour
our hearts out. There's three officers at a Yonkers reform meeting about the
police. How are we going to get reform? Thank you gentlemen, thank you police
officers, from the bottom of my heart and soul that really means a lot,”
says one meeting attendee.
"In the history of Yonkers, we have not
had a hundred black officers in the history of the city. Just let that sit with
you for a minute. We are a city of 200,000. Almost 20 percent are black and we
have not in the history had a hundred Black officers," says Dr. Alexandra Connolly, of Yonkers.
The last two police reform
meetings will be held in November and December.
It will be followed by a
final report with recommendations to be sent to the governor's office for
review.
