The Eastchester Police Department held a moment of silence and a prayer for Officer Michael Frey during a ceremony at City Hall on Saturday.
Frey was killed in the line of duty 30 years ago by a sniper while responding to a call for gunfire.
His former colleagues urged residents to pause and reflect on the sacrifice he made for his community and loved ones.
“Mike was an amazing individual. He was an officer that had friends from the rookie on the job to the most senior individual on the job,” said retired Eastchester Detective Frank Casey.
“He was taken way too young and nothing can replace him. But by doing things like this, we kind of keep his memory alive,” said Eastchester Police Chief Joseph Rodriguez.
A memorial Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe after the ceremony.
