Memorial Day ceremonies looked very different this year, but not even a global pandemic can keep people from honoring those who died protecting our country.

The city of Yonkers usually holds a massive Memorial Day ceremony, but this year they took the event to the people.

Following a brief ceremony outside of city hall, military members and first responders took part in a citywide motorcade.

Beginning at the JFK Marina, the group traveled to the city's Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts and war memorials.

People were encouraged to stand outside to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Mayor Mike Spano says the city will not let the day go by without respectfully remembering the Yonkers residents and all veterans who died during war.

"We should just remember while we're all going through this tough time today, there are those who would love to be here, who sacrificed their own lives so that we could be here today," Spano said.
