A fire at the former IBM building has been deemed suspicious by the Somers Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. on March 30, with crews responding to reports of smoke inside. When firefighters arrived, they found a room burning roughly 100 feet inside the building.

Officials say the fire was quickly knocked down, with assistance requested from nearby departments due to the building’s size.

The fire department also reminded the public that abandoned structures like the former IBM building have significantly deteriorated and may contain hazardous conditions. In addition to being dangerous, the property is privately owned, and entry is prohibited.
