Yonkers held a memorial on Friday's anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
There were 26 victims of the attacks who had ties to Yonkers, and there were six city residents who died overseas fighting the war on terror.
Yonkers first responders, steel workers and even ordinary people were among those who participated in the recovery effort after the Twin Towers fell.
Alicia Seda was 11 years old at the time. Now, she is a first lieutenant in the Army National Guard.
"I represent a generation of Americans whose response was not immediately visible," she said at the ceremony.
Seda, of Yonkers, served two tours of duty overseas.
"It's the best thing I ever did with my life, and there's no denying the ties it had to Sept. 11," Seda continued.
