Four women-owned restaurant/bars in the North Rockland area are joining forces to celebrate Women’s History Month with a new community event that began Friday night.

Michele Curran, of Hudson’s Mill, is an organizer behind the first-ever “Raising the Bar” event.

“A lot of times, people think that women are in competition with each other. That is not the case for us," she said.

Curran is one of four owners participating, along with the women behind Copper Still, Lynch’s on the Green, and Sam’s Tavern. The group created the event to celebrate Women’s History Month, support one another and invite the community to join in.

“We're very supportive of each other, and I wanted to highlight that and showcase it across the community,” Curran said. “And just encourage my customers to go there. Their customers to come here.”

Throughout the event, each owner will spend a few hours at the other participating businesses, allowing guests the opportunity to meet the women who run them. Each bar will be offering music and specialty cocktails, too.

When the owners gathered on Friday, they shared what it means to hold leadership roles in their industry.

“You know, there was a long path to becoming an owner, so being here from open to now - where I was just a manager and now I'm an owner, it's a huge accomplishment for me and I love being able to do it in the community I grew up in,” Curran said.

Devyn Garrison, a new owner of Lynch’s on the Green, added, “Kevin, the owner at Lynch's, the original owner, is my uncle. And I've learned so much from him. He brings so much to the table. But being a woman, and having my perspective on things, brings a lot to the table also.”

Lauren Conroy of The Copper Still credited the women who taught and inspired her.

“They taught me everything it means to be a woman and a boss, and just be great," Conroy says.

News 12 is told there will also be a 50/50 raffle benefitting the Center for Safety & Change and United Women of Rockland.
