A proposal to build a French-American school in White Plains continues to face opposition, but a group of residents that supports the plan is calling for its approval.
"We're talking about a school, nature park. It's not a toxic waste dump or a prison," said one member of Neighbors Act, a group that would like to see the former Ridgeway Country Club turned into the new home of the French-American School of New York.
The school purchased the 131-acre property in 2011 with the goal of consolidating its three campuses and creating a nature park. It is suing to get the school built and that case is moving through the courts.
Opponents are concerned about closing down Hathaway Lane during school hours and the impact that would have on traffic and emergency response times.
