Nearly 20 food and beverage businesses in a Middletown mall are demanding they too be allowed to re-open during Phase 3.
Sicilian Delight, located inside the Galleria at Crystal Run, has not even been allowed to offer curbside pick up or delivery.
The general manager believes businesses within malls are suffering unnecessarily while other restaurants are able to flourish.
"What is the difference being crowded in the park or in the middle of the street, everywhere...like what is the difference between those streets and us in the mall?" asks Sicilian Delight General Manager Peter Vukelj.
A retail official tells News 12 that the governor's team is most concerned about how much fresh air can get into a shopping mall and the ability for large groups to gather.
"I see a lot of different businesses that have been open forever and ever," says Vukelj. "They never even shut down."
Eighteen food and beverage businesses inside the Galleria at Crystal Run are begging the state to allow them to reopen during Phase 3 - when indoor dining is allowed to resume.
"The issues seem to come down to how much fresh air can get into a shopping mall, the ability for large congregate groups to gather, inside shopping malls," says Ted Potrikus, the president and CEO of the Retail Council of New York State.
The governor told a reporter earlier this week his team would look into this issue, but there has not yet been communication or any word on the matter.
