A Yonkers couple has been sentenced for stealing more than $170,000 from the New York City Department of Education.

Prosecutors say 42-year-old Rusnelly Clase, a former middle school community coordinator, falsified purchase orders for items that were never delivered.

Authorities say the scheme resulted in more than $170,000 in fraudulent payments.

Prosecutors say Clase's husband, Justin Echevarria, received those payments and kicked back a portion of the money.

Clase was sentenced to six months in prison.

Echevarria was sentenced to five years of probation.

Both were ordered to pay restitution.
