With the jobless rate in Westchester and the Hudson Valley reaching a 15-year high, a growing number of people are turning to employment centers for help.
Although there was a slight dip in the local jobless rate, from 5.2 to 4.9 percent, over the past month, Charles Bruno, the executive director of an employment center in Yonkers, says the crisis is far from over.
?That's not to give anybody any degree of solace in relation to their own personal status,? Bruno says.
Bruno advises people who come to see him and his counselors for employment advice or ask for help with their resumes to keep their education network in mind when looking for a job. He also says if a person finds him or herself on welfare, it is no reason to be complacent and stop looking for employment.
According to Bruno, not all forecasts are bleak. Some industries, like health care, are growing, and he believes new "green" industries will flourish in the near future.
