The sound of bagpipes filled the streets as thousands gathered in Rockland County for one of the Hudson Valley’s largest celebrations of Irish heritage.

The 62nd annual Pearl River St. Patrick’s Day Parade stepped off Sunday, drawing families, community groups and visitors from across the region.

For many, the celebration is about more than just tradition — it’s about identity and pride. Parade Grand Marshal Pat Withers called it a one-of-a-kind experience.

“Best in the world. It’s nothing like Pearl River, Rockland County. Irish heritage is alive and well in Rockland,” Withers said.

Generations of families lined the parade route. Ed Farrell attended with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“Just celebrating with everybody else,” Farrell said.

For some, it was a first or second time experiencing the parade, while others have made it an annual tradition.

“It’s a great day,” said Colleen Gubala of Rockland County.

Community groups also took part, including the Rockland County Nurses Honor Guard.

“I’ve never felt so validated all my life. It’s great,” said Joanne Cruz.

Organizers say the parade, the second largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York state, continues to grow each year, bringing together people from across the Hudson Valley to celebrate Irish culture, community and tradition.
