A New Jersey resident has been sentenced to prison for killing his two aunts in Rockland County.

Alan Abad — aka Alina Abad — of Westwood, New Jersey, showed no expression as the family of his two murder victims asked Rockland County Judge Kevin Russo to impose the maximum sentence of life without parole.

"Our loved ones do not get a second chance," said a relative in a victim impact statement on behalf of the family. "Our family does not get a second chance. We ask this court not to give one (a second chance) to the man who took that away from us."

Abad admitted to killing both his aunts — Evelyn Aguilar-Agustin and Anabelly Aguilar — in February 2025 at an apartment on Gesner Drive.

Prosecutors said Abad hit both his aunts with his hands and other blunt objects around the home.

Anabelly died of spine fractures and brain hemorrhages.

Evelyn died of hits to the head, face and abdomen.

Rockland County Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino sought a life sentence, too.

"There is no number of years that can return two beloved women to the people who loved them," Crispino said. "What remains not is justice, and justice in this case demands one sentence."

In the end, Russo imposed a sentence of 25 years to life in prison, meaning Abad will become eligible for parole in 25 years, when he is 45.

District Attorney Tom Walsh was also hoping for life without parole.

“My office vigorously advocated on their behalf and sought the maximum penalty allowed under the law," Walsh said, in part, after the hearing in a statement. "I offer my sincere condolences to their family."

Neither the prosecution nor the defense offered a more detailed sequence of events of Abad's motive for killing his aunts.

Abad did not address the court.

His attorney declined comment afterwards.
