New York's top two workers unions are now backing plans to build a multimillion-dollar casino in Orange County.
However, state lawmakers and the "Business Council of Westchester" urged state officials Wednesday to reconsider putting a casino in Orange County amid concerns it would take business away from Empire City Casino in Yonkers.
"We support job growth," says Fran Perchick, of Monroe. "We're opposed to inappropriate growth and inappropriate development."
Perchick says there are major environmental concerns with all six casino plans being considered for Orange County, and believes farther north in Sullivan County is a better option.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says both counties could get one.
Neuhaus said two casinos would benefit the region without competing because each proposed casino has different attractions.
The state is expected to make a decision regarding the casinos in about a month.
