The Yorktown community is gathering for a private funeral service Saturday to say a final goodbye to 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman.

Police say the Loyola University freshman was fatally shot on March 19 by a masked gunman, steps away from her Chicago campus.

Chicago police say the gunman was 25-year-old Jose Medina-Medina, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, who is now charged with first-degree murder and other felony charges.

A solemn procession of mourners arrived at first Presbyterian Church to pay their final respects to Gorman.

Those who knew her described the graduate of Yorktown High School, as a bright light, loved by her friends and family.
