Westchester lawmakers voted 13-4 Monday to approve a proposal to have a third party take over operations at Rye Playland.
Standard Amusements will run the park, but the county will continue to own it.
The plan includes a $32 million investment by the county and another $30 million from Standard Amusements.
Almost all of the legislators spoke before the vote.
Supporters say the plan will reinvigorate Playland.
"We don't want to be the Legislature that kills Playland, instead we want to be the Legislature that helps guarantee the future of Playland," says Board President Michael Kaplowitz. "And we're hoping as many as a million people a year soon come out to Playland."
But those who oppose it, like Legislator Ken Jenkins, say it's not in the best interest of county residents.
"Our partner is putting up $5 million in the next 24 months -- we're putting up $32 million tonight," Jenkins says. "That's not a partnership. I don't know what you call that, but that's not a partnership."
Standard Amusements made no comment after the vote. Playland opens for the season this weekend.
