Police say a West Islip man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Michael Liontonia, 38, was arrested in front of his home at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Patrol officers responded to a middle school on March 24 after a student told her guidance counselor she
was sexually assaulted.

Police said Liontonia met the 13-year-old victim on Snapchat, where they chatted back and forth, and got her phone number from her Snapchat page.

The victim reported that a man called her on the phone, and she then met him at a gas station, located at 5556 Express Drive South in Holtsville on March 23.

The victim stated that the man drove her to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her in his vehicle and then dropped her off back at the gas station.

Liontonia was charged with first degree rape, rape in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Liontonia's attorney, Michael Brown, said that his client "is adamant that there was no sexual activity whatsoever."

He said Liontonia, who's married with two young kids, is a well-respected member of the community.

Officials are asking requesting anyone with information on this incident or believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.

Liontonia's bail was set at $100,000 cash.
