Subway service on the 6 line has been partially suspended following a massive water main break.
Officials say about 800,000 gallons of water flooded the 6 train station at Saint Mary's and East 143rd streets, covering about 1,000 feet of tracks. The break occurred around midnight.
MTA crews have been at the scene throughout the night and morning, placing sand bags and salt all over the street in an attempt to contain the water.
As a result of the flooding, service on the 6 line has been suspended between 138th Street and Hunts Point Avenue. All subway service north and south of the affected station is running on its normal schedule.
Shuttle buses are currently available to commuters in lieu of the subway.
Officials say crews will continue to clean all day, and hope to have services resume by this evening.
